Job Description: Music Director/Pianist and Counselor at Lanakila Summer Camp

Are you a talented theater Music Director/pianist with a passion for working with children? Do you have a knack for creating a fun and inclusive musical atmosphere? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you! Join Camp Lanakila as a Piano Accompanist and Counselor, where you can inspire young campers through the power of music.

Responsibilities:

Accompanist for Musical

Serve as Music Director for the first half musical. This includes teaching all the vocal parts and playing piano for the performances. 

Make sure the piano is kept in good condition. This means making sure the cover is always on, and that the the lid is put down over the keys every night.  Since it is practically outdoors the moisture builds up on the keys and it is very unpleasant to play the next morning. Everyone at camp is welcome to use the piano, and most won’t remember to cover the keys when they are done. 

As Camp Pianist:

· Provide lively and engaging piano accompaniment for all camp singing at daily assembly, campfire sing-alongs, talent show performances, and other camp events. Bring the magic of music to life!

· Collaborate with campers and other staff members to create musical arrangements and performances. Encourage campers to explore their musical talents and express themselves through music.

· Assist and support campers in rehearsing and practicing their individual musical performances. Foster their confidence and growth as musicians.

· Occasionally lead group music sessions, teaching campers basic piano skills or introducing them to new instruments. Ignite their love for music!

As a Counselor:

· Act as a positive role model and mentor for campers, fostering a supportive and inclusive camp community. Help create lasting memories for campers!

· Engage and participate in camp activities and team-building exercises. Foster a sense of belonging and fun for all campers.

· Supervise and ensure the safety of campers during all camp activities, including meal times, overnight stays, and off-site excursions. Their safety is our priority!

Qualifications:

· Proficient piano skills and the ability to read sheet music, with a diverse repertoire. Show off your versatility in playing various genres!

· Prior experience working with children, such as teaching music lessons or leading youth groups. Patience and a genuine interest in nurturing young minds are key.

· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with campers of different ages and backgrounds. Build trust and rapport easily!

· An energetic and enthusiastic attitude, with the ability to create a positive and inclusive camp environment. Infuse campers with your infectious energy!
