Licensing company Theatrical Rights Worldwide is developing a new jukebox musical from the song catalogue of Andrew Lippa, titled Love Somebody Now. Joy Machine Records will digitally release a studio cast album of the show April 24 on all streaming platforms.
A host of Broadway notables has been assembled to perform on the upcoming release, including Jordan Fisher, Bonnie Milligan, Steven Pasquale, Phillipa Soo, Adrienne Warren, and Joy Woods. The album was recorded at Power Station at BerkleeNYC.
The project puts a new, original story with songs from Lippa's earlier musical, including tunes from The Wild Party, Big Fish, A Little Princess, The Addams Family, You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, John & Jen, and more. Love Somebody Now follows two couples who, over the course of the musical, have children who eventually fall in love and marry each other, leaving their parents empty nesters who have to figure out what's next.
The musical features a concept and book by Matt Webster and Nathan Brewer, plus additional lyrics by Brian Crawley and Tom Greenwald. TRW has been developing the project in partnership with Alabama's Red Mountain Theatre and NYU's Tisch School of the Arts, the latter of which workshopped the title.
"This show captures the full arc of love over many years—not just the initial attraction, but the risk and commitment involved," says Lippa in a statement. "Ultimately the show’s message is one of moving forward with hope and belief. The creative process in developing this show has been a collaboration with many, from the first workshop with Matt Webster and Nathan Brewer, to Red Mountain Theatre, NYU, and Theatrical Rights Worldwide stepping in to bring us to this moment. I’m so excited for theatres around the world to now be able to produce Love Somebody Now."
"Having the opportunity to work with these incredible artists on this one-of-a-kind new show is a dream come true," adds Webster. "I can't wait for the world to hear what we've been up to."
