Symphony Space will host Inside the Interestings: An Evening with Sara Bareilles, Michael Arden, and Meg Wolitzer, a special one-night-only event offering an inside look into the trio's collaboration on The Interestings, their new musical. The evening, which will serve as a fundraiser for Symphony Space, will be held June 9 in the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre.

Grammy-winning songwriter and Waitress star and creator Bareilles has teamed up with Tony Award-winning director Arden (Maybe Happy Ending, The Lost Boys) to adapt Wolitzer's novel The Interestings. Wolitzer is co-writing the musical's book with playwright Sara Ruhl. The musical is set to make its world premiere at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, in association with Matt Ross, beginning January 31, 2027, with an opening night slated for February 17.

The Interestings follows six friends who bond over their shared dreams of leading creative lives, from their first meeting as teenagers at a summer camp to decades later in New York City.

The Symphony Space fundraiser will stage performances of selections from Bareilles' score for the musical, performed by Bareilles and other guests to be announced, as well as a Q&A with the audience.

A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for the special event, which will include premium seating; a 6×9" commemorative event print signed by Bareilles, Arden, and Wolitzer; and a copy of The Interestings novel signed by Wolitzer.
