DESCRIPTION

Opera Picciona is a new community opera group seeking performers for a double bill of Mozart's BASTIEN UND BASTIENNE and Offenbach's LE 66.

Performances: June 26-27
Venue: The Fred and Adele Astaire Ballroom at the Houghton Hall Arts Community
Rehearsals begin in mid/late May

BASTIEN UND BASTIENNE
Bastienne is upset at having been thrown over by her beloved Bastien, who has gone off chasing wealthy noblewomen in the city. She enlists the aid of the alleged sorcerer Colas, who assures her that Bastien does love her, but must be brought round by means of a deception. One comic misunderstanding later and the couple become happily reunited.

LE 66
Grittly and Frantz, two Tyrolean peasants, are on the road to Strasbourg to visit Grittly’s sister. Along the way, Frantz buys a lottery ticket. They then meet Berthold, a peddler, who happens to be carrying the paper with the winning lottery numbers, and it transpires that Frantz holds the winning #66! Frantz wants to celebrate by immediately buying new clothes, but as he cannot collect his winnings until they get to the city, Berthold agrees to sell him his wares on credit. But when calamity strikes in the form of a contrived twist, only an even more contrived twist can put everything to right.
