Bridge Street Theatre (Catskill, NY)

After inheriting a drive-in movie theater and gaining custody of his late husband’s teenage son, Remy forms a tentative bond with Pup through classic monster films. When Remy discovers Pup’s cruel bullying of a gay classmate, their relationship fractures—forcing both characters to confront buried grief, internalized prejudice, and moral compromise. Haunting, funny, and unexpectedly tender, Monsters of the American Cinema explores the monsters we excuse, the harm we inherit, and the courage it takes to confront them. The Los Angeles Times hails the play as “exhilarating.”
ROLES AVAILABLE
This play contains homophobic and racial slurs, and references to substance abuse and overdose. Both roles require physical movement; experience with Viewpoints is a plus.
