The October 8 episode of The Simpsons will showcase a trio of theatre fan favorites: Tony winner Martin Short, Fun Home author Alison Bechdel, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend star and creator Rachel Bloom. Take a look at the clip above.
In the episode, titled "Springfield Splendor," Lisa and Marge turn a traumatizing experience into a graphic novel, which in turn is adapted into a Broadway show (not unlike Bechdel’s Fun Home). However, as the show moves forward, the two begin to squabble over creative differences.
While Bechdel and Bloom lend their voices as animated versions of themselves, Short plays Guthrie Frenel, and eccentric but visionary director who wants to bring Lisa's story to the stage. Past productions of Frenel's include an all-dog staging of Cats and Waiting for Godot, where Godot appears in the first scene.
