Tony Award winner Beth Leavel, who wraps up her Tony-nominated turn in Broadway’s The Prom later this summer, has signed on to star in a reading of Matthew Lombardo’s new comedy Conversations With Mother, which will receive a New York City industry presentation September 12.

The two-hander traces the relationship between an Italian-American mother and her son over the course of five decades. The semi-autobiographical work is based on Lombardo’s relationship with his own mother.

Leavel’s co-star remains to be announced. Noah Himmelstein (I Am Harvey Milk) will direct.

Lombardo’s Broadway-aimed Tea at Five, starring Oscar winner Faye Dunaway as Katharine Hepburn, concludes its Boston out-of-town try-out July 14 with future New York plans to be announced. His plays also include Looped, High, and Who's Holiday?
