Everybody Rise! A Sondheim Celebration,
an evening celebrating the extraordinary work of the late
composer-lyricist Stephen Sondheim, is presented July 30 at
California's Hollywood Bowl. Show time is 7:30 PM.
The concert features three-time Tony winner Patti LuPone (Evita, Gypsy, Company), Sierra Boggess (The Phantom of the Opera, The Little Mermaid, School of Rock), two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Anything Goes, The Music Man), two-time Tony recipient Brian Stokes Mitchell (Ragtime; Kiss Me, Kate), Skylar Astin (Spring Awakening, Little Shop ofHorrors), and Tony nominee Norm Lewis (The Phantom of the Opera, The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess).
Longbottom and Stites said in an earlier statement, “It is the
greatest honor and privilege to put together an evening of Stephen
Sondheim for the world-famous Hollywood Bowl, with an incredible group
of singing actors who will inhabit this material and deliver
performances for the audience that will move, transport, and inspire.
The task is indeed humbling, but as George (title character in Sunday in the Park with George) says: ‘White. A blank page or canvas. So many possibilities.’”
The play comes on the heels of a broader cultural conversation about Dahl's work and the prejudice that was embedded in many of his most beloved stories.
