Obituaries Musician Bruce Pomahac Dies at 73

Mr. Pomahac was the Director of Music for The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization for more than 20 years.

Bruce Pomahac, music director and arranger, passed away April 30. He was 73.

Born July 2, 1948, Mr. Pomahac was the Director of Music for The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization for more than 20 years, in addition to his work as a musical consultant for Concord Theatricals, The Irving Berlin Music Company, and The Frederick Loewe Foundation.

Particularly lauded for his affinity for string sections, Mr. Pomahac first orchestrated the play The Curse of an Aching Heart for Broadway in 1982, before music directing and vocally arranging Meet Me In St. Louis for its 1989 Broadway debut.

As the trusted consultant for The Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, he orchestrated the 1996 production of State Fair before shifting his energies to The Irving Berlin Music Company, where he became the go-to arranger for productions of White Christmas and Holiday Inn

A treasure trove of musical theatre history with unabating curiosity hidden underneath a droll sense of humor, he was known to meet with up-and-coming theatre professionals to impart the importance of the music department in Broadway productions.

Per Mr. Pomahac's wishes, no funeral will be held. He is survived by sisters Linda and Christine.
