Ellenville, New York's Shadowland Stages is readying its New York premiere run of John Cariani's Almost, Maine follow-up Darker the Night/Brighter the Stars, which plays the Hudson Valley company August 29-September 14.
Cariani—who as an actor has starred on Broadway in The Band's Visit, Something Rotten!, and Caroline, Or Change—is directing.
The cast features Hannah Daly, Aidan J. Lawrence, Emily Verla, and Shawn Denegre-Vaught.
As in the earlier play, the new work comprises vignettes set against the Perseid meteor showers of Northern Maine. Cariani's Almost, Maine has become one of the most frequently produced plays in the canon, becoming a favorite at regional theatres and schools nationwide since its premiere in 2004. Formerly titled Not Quite Almost, Darker the Night/Brighter the Stars made its world premiere at Maine's Portland Stage Company earlier this year.
Tickets are at ShadowlandStages.org.
