The Chemotherapy Foundation's 2023 Innovation Gala is held November 9 at Guastavino’s in New York City. Gala emcee Valerie Smaldone returns as host.
The evening honors In the Heights and Hamilton star Mandy Gonzalez with the Inspire NYC Award. The actor is a breast cancer survivor and author of the Young Adult novel series FEARLESS. Gonzalez, who will also perform, will be presented with the award by fellow Hamilton alum Javier Muñoz.
The annual Ezra Greenspan Award, named in memory of the pioneering oncologist who founded The Chemotherapy Foundation in 1968, will go to Dr. Joseph A. Sparano. The Pillar of Medical Advancement Award, recognizing industry leaders for their commitment to improving and extending the lives of cancer patients through drug and treatment development, will go to Dr. Ken Takeshita.
“It is an honor to work with such outstanding oncologists and individuals all committed to supporting innovative and collaborative research that will lead to a cure for cancer,” said Executive Director Paola G. Muggia. TCF Chair Michael Rosenberg added, “Our goal is to take this amazing organization to the next level. At TCF we share the vision of a cancer-free future. We believe it is achievable.”
Proceeds from the evening go towards advancing innovative research in efforts to find a cure for cancer.
