Video Lin-Manuel Miranda Visits the Vega Alta Neighborhood That Inspired In The Heights In this new streaming series, the Tony and Pulitzer winner shows the real carnaval del barrio.

Lin-Manuel Miranda spent his childhood summers in Vega Alta, Puerto Rico, which fans of In The Heights will recognize from his lyrics in the Tony-winning musical. In a new streaming series on behalf of Discover Puerto Rico, Miranda returns to the neighborhood to reveal some of the inspirations behind his show and himself as a writer.

“There’s a song in In The Heights called ‘Carnaval Del Barrio’ that was based on the carnavales that I would experience here,” Miranda says.
