Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, Phillipa Soo, Jonathan Groff, More Set for Octet Film
Lin-Manuel Miranda has announced the cast for his film version of Dave Malloy's musical.

This is definitely an internet support group you'll wanna join. Lin-Manuel Miranda has announced the cast of Octet, his upcoming film based on the Dave Malloy musical of the same name.
Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!) will play Jessica, with newly minted Olivier winner Rachel Zegler (Evita) as Velma, Emmy winner Sheryl Lee Ralph (Abbott Elementary) as Paula, Phillipa Soo (Hamilton) as Karly, Tony winner Jonathan Groff (Merrily We Roll Along) as Henry, Emmy winner Tramell Tillman (Severance) as Marvin, Paul-Jordan Jansen (Sweeney Todd) as Ed, and Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things) as Toby (not the first time he's played a character named Toby—see the 2023 Broadway revival of Sweeney Todd).
The a cappella musical follows a group of strangers in a support group for internet addicts. Octet premiered in 2019 at Off-Broadway's Signature Theatre.
Composer Dave Malloy (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is writing the screenplay and will also serve as executive producer. "I am over the moon that Lin-Manuel is turning Octet into a movie!" he said in a previous statement. "I was utterly gobsmacked by his work on tick, tick...BOOM!, and feel so honored to have such a beacon of the musical theatre world bring this piece into a new life. As a brilliant storyteller, fellow internet junkie, and dear friend, I know he's going to make something amazing. And our cast is completely ridiculous." Miranda's 5000 Broadway Productions is producing.
Said Miranda in a previous statement: "I haven’t stopped thinking about Octet since I saw Annie Tippe’s premiere production in November of 2019. Dave Malloy’s score is versatile, brilliant, and grows more relevant with each passing year. It won’t leave me alone so here we are.”
Octet the film will also be produced by John Skidmore for Best Kept Secret Productions, and Luis Miranda. Executive producers are Johnny Holland, Owen Panettieri, and Diana DiMenna. The film is being financed and executive produced by Sander Jacobs, Caren Jacobs, TodayTix Group, Jeffrey Seller, Teresa Tsai, and John Gore for Broadway.com.
