Hedwig star and Tony winner Lena Hall is planning to release a CD that captures her autobiographical 2015 solo concert Feinstein's/54 Below, The Villa Satori, Growing Up Haight Ashbury.
The star of Broadway’s Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Tony Award) and Kinky Boots also plans to release Obsessed–Hedwig, an album of acoustic versions of songs from the musical. Hall has a close relationship with the show, having done it both on Broadway (opposite Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris) and on tour, sometimes performing the supporting role of Yitzhak, and sometimes taking the starring role of Hedwig.
Hall billed The Villa Satori, Growing Up Haight Ashbury concert as a “brand new musical memoir” that recounted “the trials and tribulations of growing up in a legendary hippie household” in the San Francisco neighborhood. The concert featured intimate storytelling and an eclectic soundtrack made up of classical, soul, new wave, punk rock, and more, much of which will be captured on the CD.
Hall will be joined on the Villa Satori recording by her musical director and guitarist Watt White, keyboardist John Deley, bassist Lee Nadel, and drummer Brian Fishler.
Hall announced the releases on Instagram, but provided few details about dates or labels.
