Killing an Evening with Edgar Allan Poe will return to the Merchant’s House Museum for 12 performances in 2026.

Presented by Summoners Ensemble Theatre, the solo show debuted in 2018. In this fourth installment, John Kevin Jones will summon famed author Edgar Allan Poe to tell his classic tales in the 1832 double parlors of the museum. Running March 25-April 6, 2026, the production is directed by Dr. Rhonda Dodd.

In 1845, Poe lived just blocks from the Merchant's House, on what was then known as Amity Street. The publication of The Raven in January brought him instant fame and invitations to the city's most fashionable literary salons. This production recreates one of those events, with Jones assuming the role of Poe in a candlelit double parlor for a hauntingly memorable performance of Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Cask of Amontillado,” “The Angel of the Odd” and, of course, “The Raven.” Seating is strictly limited to 40 per performance.

For four select performances, an addition pre-show reception will be on offer. Called Raise a Glass to Edgar, Jones will welcome audiences into the museum's kitchen, where they will enjoy wine, non-alcoholic libations, and the infamous Amontillado as he delivers Poe's “Annabel Lee,” and “Alone." The kitchen, family room, and garden (weather permitting) of the Merchant’s House Museum will be open to guests during the reception. Seating for the receptions are strictly limited to 20 guests.
