Theatreworks USA—which produces theatre for young audiences and families—recently presented a reading of a new musical by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk, the composing team currently represented Off-Broadway with The Mad Ones at 59E59 Theaters.
Based on the book series by Andrea Beaty (Rosie Revere, Engineer; Iggy Peck, Architect; Ada Twist, Scientist), the new musical, with a working title of Rosie Revere, Engineer, features a book by playwright Lauren Gunderson, lyrics by Kerrigan, and music by Lowdermilk.
Peter Flynn directed a cast that included Andréa Burns (In the Heights, On Your Feet!), Alyse Alan Louis (Amelie, Disaster!), Nicole Powell (Ragtime, Hairspray), Destinee Rea (Amelie), and Daniel Quadrino (Newsies, Wicked). Dan Garmon served as music director, and Marco Santana choreographed.
The new musical follows Miss Lila Greer’s class on a field trip to a remote island. When the small footbridge connecting the island to the mainland collapses (and their teacher faints), Iggy Peck, Ada Twist, and Rosie Revere must come together to solve a big-time crises using their wits, engineering prowess, and problem-solving skills.
Founded in 1961, Theatreworks USA has reached nearly 97 million audience members across 49 states and Canada. The company was recently represented Off-Broadway by the Drama Desk-nominated musical, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical.
