Pulitzer winner John Patrick Shanley (Doubt)'s new play Brooklyn Laundry will play a world premiere run Off-Broadway via Manhattan Theatre Club in winter 2024, with dates to be announced. Set for New York City Center's Stage I, the production will also be directed by Shanley.
The play centers on three sisters and a guy who run a Brooklyn laundry, with press notes describing the work as both "tragic and funny."
The production is the latest to be announced for MTC's 2023-2024 season, which will also include a Broadway bow for Jocelyn Bioh's Jaja's African Hair Braiding, directed by Whitney White; and an Off-Broadway run of Qui Nguyen's Poor Yella Rednecks. Dates for both productions are to be announced.
MTC's Summer, 1976, starring Laura Linney and Jessica Hecht, is currently playing the Friedman on Broadway, while the New York premiere of Rajiv Joseph's King James, starring Chris Perfetti and Glenn Davis, is running Off-Broadway at New York City Center Stage I. Both productions continue through June 18.
Shanley is an Academy Award winner for his screenplay to Moonstruck, with his stage works including Doubt, Outside Mullingar, and The Portuguese Kid.
