Jennifer Hudson reached EGOT status as a producer of 2022 Best Musical Tony winner A Strange Loop, but apparently she didn't realize that when the show won the award. Hudson began her EGOT (aka Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) journey in 2007, winning an Academy Award for her performance as Effie White in Dreamgirls, adapted from the Broadway musical. She won Grammys in 2009 for her album Jennifer Hudson and in 2017 for the Broadway revival cast album of The Color Purple; and a Daytime Emmy Award in 2021 for Outstanding Interactive Media for a Daytime Program for Baby Yaga.

That Tony Award means that all EGOT winners have Broadway connections, including Richard Rodgers, Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, Marvin Hamlisch, Jonathan Tunick, Mel Brooks, Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg, Robert Lopez, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Viola Davis, and Alan Menken, among others.
