History-making Tony winner J. Harrison Ghee (Some Like It Hot) has joined the cast of the workshop presentation of the new musical The Gorgeous Nothings, held in Manhattan December 17-19.

Directed and choreographed by Danny Mefford (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), the cast also features Tony nominee John Cariani (Fiddler on the Roof), Ken Barnett (Fun Home), Arnie Burton (Peter and the Starcatcher), Allan K. Washington (Once On This Island), and Noah Wolfe (Barrington’s La Cage aux Folles).

Created and written by Travis Lee Russ and developed during a 2025 residency at Baryshnikov Arts, The Gorgeous Nothings is set in 1930s New York City's and uncovers the story of the “Fag Ward”—a hidden wing of the Men’s Penitentiary on Welfare Island, where men were imprisoned for homosexuality.

The musical weaves the stories of six inmates into high-camp numbers from The Fag Follies—the prison’s annual Christmas pageant—exposing a fabulous underground world.

The workshop also has musical direction by Alejandro Senior, orchestrations by Dan Schlosberg, and arrangements by Senior and Schlosberg. John C. Moore serves as the stage manager, with general management by Sing, Out Lousie! Productions.

The workshop is produced by Life Jacket Theatre Company, Baryshnikov Arts, Making Gay History, Kevin Jennings, Mark E. Stephanz, and Joseph A. Harper.
