Heather Christian's Oratorio for Living Things has been extended at Signature Theatre Off-Broadway. The musical was originally scheduled to close November 16. It will now run through November 23. Read what critics have to say here.
The sung-through musical features a 12-person choir which sings about life, the universe, and time. Oratorio was previously produced Off-Broadway at Ars Nova in 2022, where it won several Obie and Lucille Lortel Awards. Christian was recently named a 2025 MacArthur Fellow, which comes with $800,000.

Oratorio’s singers include Kirstyn Cae Ballard, Jonathan Christopher, Carla Duren, Ashley Pérez Flanagan, Brian Flores, Jonny-James Kajoba, Barrie Lobo McLain, Ángel Lozada, Divya Maus, Ben Moss, Onyie Nwachukwu, and Dito Van Reigersberg. Their understudies are Major Curda, Laura Darrell, Elisa Galindez, and Jacob Ryan Smith. Casting is by Henry Russell Bergstein Casting. Lee Sunday Evans directs.
The production's instrumentalists are Fraser Campbell, Jane Cardona, Clerida Eltime, John Murchison, Odetta Hartman, and Peter Wise.
The creative team includes scenic and environmental designer Krit Robinson, costume designer Márion Talán de la Rosa, lighting designer Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, sound designer Nick Kourtides, music director Ben Moss, and Latin consultant Greg Taubman. The stage management team will be led by production stage manager Jo Fernandez, with assistant stage managers Kelsey Vivian and Olivia McQuerry.
