A new international production of the Tony-nominated musical The Full Monty will play Japan this summer. Performances will begin August 19 at Tokyo International Forum Hall C and continue through September 7, before transferring to Osaka’s Shin Kabukiza Theatre September 10–14.

Directed by Trey Ellett, the production will star Koji Yamamoto as Jerry and Yuriyan Retriever (America’s Got Talent) as Georgie. They will be joined by an international company including Adam Chanler-Berat as Malcolm, John Hemphill as Harold, Charles Wallace as Horse, Stephen Rochet Lopez as Ethan, Michael Graceffa as Keno, Kelsey Venter as Pam, Coleen Sexton as Vicki, and Mylinda Hull as Jeanette.

The ensemble will feature Alana Cauthen, Olivia Cece, Gregory Haney, Cody Jenkins, Natalie Joy Johnson, Missy Moreno, James Schoppe, and Jamison Stern. Jennifer Hemphill will serve as swing.

The Full Monty, which features a book by Terrence McNally and a score by David Yazbek, follows six unemployed steelworkers in Buffalo, New York, who, literally, drop everything to make some cash and help out a friend in trouble.

The musical opened at Broadway's Eugene O'Neill Theatre in October 2000, playing 35 previews and 770 regular performances before closing September 1, 2002. The production was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and the original cast included Patrick Wilson, Jason Danieley, André De Shields, Kathleen Freeman, Annie Golden, Marcus Neville, and Emily Skinner.

The upcoming production marks the first Japan–U.S. collaboration for The Full Monty, which will be performed in English with Japanese subtitles and a live orchestra. Yamamoto, who previously appeared in the Japan–U.S. co-production of Rent in 2024, is reuniting with director Ellett for this new staging.

The creative team will also include choreographer Paul McGill, music supervisor Catherine A. Walker, orchestrator Harold Wheeler, vocal and incidental music arranger Ted Sperling, and dance music arranger Zane Mark.

The Full Monty is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

A pre-sale will begin April 25 with general sales starting June 6. For more information click here.
