The New York premiere of Archduke by Obie winner and Pulitzer finalist Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo; Guards at the Taj), directed by Tony and Obie Award-winner Darko Tresnjak (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder; The Killer), began performances at Roundabout Theatre Company October 23, and Playbill has a first look at the production. Take a look above and below.

Starring Tony nominee and Drama Desk winner Patrick Page (Hadestown; All the Devils Are Here: How Shakespeare Invented the Villain), Archduke will officially open November 12. The production will run through December 21 at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre Off-Broadway.

The piece rewinds history to reveal the fateful journey of Gavrilo Princip—best remembered as Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassin—and his fellow revolutionaries in a new light. In the play, we see the late teens not as hardened killers, but as a ragtag group of dreamers swept up in forces beyond their control, providing a perspective Roundabout describes as "strikingly relevant in an era of disillusioned young men searching for purpose."
