More stage favorites have joined the lineup for London's upcoming My Favorite Things: The Rodgers and Hammerstein 80th Anniversary Concert. The special concert celebrating the iconic writing team behind such landmark musicals as Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music will play two performances at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane December 12.
Newly added to the roster of stars are Daniel Dae Kim, Ashley Park, and Aaron Tveit, joining the previously announced Audra McDonald, Julian Ovenden, Marisha Wallace, and Patrick Wilson. According to press notes, more stars will be announced in the coming days.
Kim and Park have associations with Rodgers and Hammerstein, having both starred in Broadway's most recent revival of The King and I. Kim's production company 3AD is also currently developing a new film version of their musical Flower Drum Song, working in collaboration with Concord Originals and Janet Yang Productions.
Christopher Gattelli is directing and staging the concerts, which will feature a 40-piece orchestra conducted by Simon Lee, along with a chamber choir, dance ensemble, and special guest appearances.
The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization is presenting, with Concord Originals, Concord Theatricals, Killimanjaro Live/JAS Theatricals, and Trafalgar Entertainment producing.
Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II began collaborating with 1943's Oklahoma!, a landmark musical that is considered the genre's first to fully integrate the book, lyrics, and choreography as agents of forwarding the plot. They would go on to dominate Broadway over the next two decades as both a writing and producing team, writing a string of classic musicals including Carousel, South Pacific, Allegro, The King and I, and The Sound of Music; and producing I Remember Mama and Annie Get Your Gun.
