The original film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinematic history, playing continuously in Mumbai since its release in 1995.

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical will make its U.K. premiere at Manchester Opera House next spring.

The new musical is based on one of the biggest blockbuster films in the history of Indian cinema, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Running May 29 through June 21, 2025, the U.K. production will be directed by Aditya Chopra, the original director of the Hindi-language film, which is the longest-running title in Indian cinema history, playing continuously in Mumbai since its release in 1995.

Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical tells the story of Simran, a young British Indian woman whose future is set via an arranged marriage back in India to a family friend. When she convinces her strict father that she should spend a summer of freedom and fun in Europe, she falls in love with Rog, a rich, charming British boy who is her father’s worst nightmare. As carefree Rog endeavors to win over her traditional father, heritage and heart go to war. 

The creative team will include Olivier winning book writer and lyricist Nell Benjamin (Mean GirlsLegally Blonde), composers Vishal Dadlani and Sheykhar Ravjiani, Tony, Olivier, and Emmy winning choreographer Rob Ashford (Frozen, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying), associate Indian choreographer Shruti Merchant (Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl, Taj Express), Tony winning scenic designer Derek McLane (MJ the MusicalMoulin Rouge! The Musical) and casting director David Grindrod for Grindrod Burton Casting.

Further creative team and casting information will be announced at a later date.

The World Premiere of Come Fall in Love – The DDLJ Musical was produced in 2022 at The Old Globe in San Diego, California.
