Tony winner Bryan Cranston (Network, All The Way, Breaking Bad) and Tony nominee Geneva Carr (Hand To God, Bull) will star in an invitation-only developmental reading of Georgette Reilly Timoney's new play Taking Liberty. The reading will be held March 17 in Manhattan.

Cranston and Carr will star as John and Abigail Adams in Timoney's creative adaptation of the letters exchanged by the historic couple. While John is in Philadelphia helping create a new nation, Abigail bears the burdens of running the family farm and raising their children in the midst of war and a pandemic. Even so, Abigail advocates in her letters for women's rights and the abolition of slavery as John shares what it takes to found the United States.

The project looks as if it's being made in the mold of A.R. Gurney's Love Letters, with the material read onstage to allow for a Broadway run and U.S. tour with rotating casts stepping in for short runs.

The reading is presented by Eric Falkenstein (Jitney, Moulin Rouge, Network) and Spark Productions.
