The musical adaptation of Billy Crystal’s Mr. Saturday Night, which played its final performance September 4 at the Nederlander Theatre, ended its run on a high note. The new musical, featuring a score by Tony winner Jason Robert Brown and Tony nominee Amanda Green, took in $1,014,614 over seven performances, the production's highest gross of its run.
It was also a record-breaking week for MJ The Musical, which broke the box-office record at the Neil Simon Theatre for the fifth time, taking in $1,762,559 for the week ending September 4.
The total grosses for the week across all 21 Broadway shows was $23,329,740. The top earners of the week, which included the Labor Day weekend, continued to be The Music Man ($2,863,653) and Hamilton ($2,106,039) with Into the Woods ($1,867,862) coming in ahead of MJ and the Disney hit The Lion King ($1,757,862) in the fifth spot.
Attendance increased overall to 89.84% of capacity, up from the previous week's 85.6%. Playing to 100% capacity or more were the aforementioned MJ and the Tony-winning Dear Evan Hansen, which is in its final weeks at the Music Box Theatre.
