The world premiere of
Jared Mezzocchi’s 73 Seconds, directed and co-developed by Obie winner Aya Ogawa (The Nosebleed), will be presented in the spring at the 64-seat planetarium inside the Lower Eastside Girls Club, which En Garde Arts will transform into an intimate space for storytelling.
Mezzocchi’s solo piece, which explores the fragile line between the personal and the cosmic, will play the New York venue April 29–May 18. Opening night is set for May 4.
In 73 Seconds, Mezzocchi tells the true story of his
relationship to his mother after learning she once worked at NASA and
had been a contender for a space mission.
Director and co-developer Ogawa said in a statement, “73 Seconds is a tender and surprising exploration of how to overcome grief through the imagination. Shepherding Jared through this intimate autobiographical journey has been a huge honor. My hope is that audiences will feel inspired to reflect on their own grief and find them buoyed by the beauty of imagining the impossible.”
The production will also have scenography and production management by Calvin Anderson, sound by Ryan Gamblin, light and video by Jeanette Oi-Suk Yew, technology by Vinny Mraz, production management by Carly Osnow-Levin, and production coordination by Olivia Fletcher.
