On July 23rd at 7pm, join us for a night of music from select group of "Musical Theatre Greats" Our talent takes to the stage to explore the works of William Finn, Jason Robert Brown, Steven Sater, Stephen Sondheim, and Tom Kitt. We will explore their different perspectives on life's important questions; from what it means to be alive, to how to learn to love again. What It Means to Be Alive: A Study On Musical Theatre Greats is a must see for lovers of the genre, and you do not want to miss it!
CASTING BREAKDOWN
Seeking talented performers and storytellers from all walks of life! Each singer will perform in at least one solo/duet/trio as well as the opening and closing of the show. There also will be other group numbers sprinkled throughout the show. Please note if you are willing to be considered for multiple group numbers. Seeking those proficient and strong with harmonies as well as picking up music quickly! We will not have a ton of time in person, so it is important that you understand this is a commitment to learning this music mostly alone.
We are looking for a diverse set of performers from all walks of life, and we strongly encourage BIPOC, members of the LGBTQ+ community, disabled, and neurodivergent performers to submit.
ALL ARTISTS WILL RECEIVE A SMALL STIPEND!
IMPORTANT DATES
TBD JUNE AND JULY REHEARSAL DATES. NEED FULL JUNE AND JULY AVAILABILITY TO DETERMINE WHEN IS A BEST FIT FOR PERFORMERS AND CREATIVE TEAM. Rehearsals will take place in Brooklyn NY 11237. An audition for this show means you understand you will have to provide your own transportation to and from rehearsal and performance location. Expect a minimum of 2 rehearsals with the discretion of the creative team to add more rehearsal dates. We will do our best to accommodate everyone's schedules.
JULY 23RD: 4:30-5:45pm: Mandatory Soundcheck and Tech run in the performance venue.
JULY 23RD: 7:30-9:00pm: Show Date!
An introduction zoom will also be scheduled after casting has been finalized. This meeting is MANDATORY as we will be going over the schedule, expectations of rehearsals, expectations of each performer, and getting to know one another! We want this cabaret to be a safe space for everyone involved -- especially with a topic as heavy as this one. Getting to know one another as well as offering different support services to each and every member of the cast and creative team is our number one priority!
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS
For consideration for "What It Means to Be Alive: A Study On Musical Theatre Greats, please submit your headshot, resume, vocal reel, and an unlisted YouTube link to a 32 bar cut of a William Finn, Jason Robert Brown, Steven Sater, Stephen Sondheim, or Tom Kitt song. While we want to include most of the songs on the proposed set list, there is always wiggle room for collaboration. In accordance with casting, we will have a conversation with each artist about what we want them to sing and if you accept that will be a finalized decision. We are always open to changing things if something feels unsafe, however our beautiful accompanist has a lot of music to learn in a short time, so we want to give them as much time as possible!
Submissions for "What It Means to Be Alive: A Study On Musical Theatre Greats" will close on April 30th at at 11:59pm EST! All performers will be notified of their casting status.
