THE WIZARD OF OZ
SEEKING:
[DOROTHY GALE] Female-identifying, 16 – 25, any ethnicity. A kind, curious Kansas girl who dreams of adventure. Earnest and big-hearted, but with a strong will and a passionate sense of loyalty. Scrappy and spunky, she is always in search of something more. Must be a strong singer who moves well. VOCAL RANGE: Mezzo Miz, G3 – C5/E5.
[HUNK/SCARECROW] Male-identifying, 20 – 40, any ethnicity. Hunk is a goofy farmhand who works for the Gales. The Scarecrow is sweet, lovable and eager to help a friend in need. Despite his perceived lack of brains, he is exceedingly intelligent and resourceful, and will go to the ends of the earth for the people he loves. Must have great comic instincts and be an excellent dancer; acrobatic skills are a plus, but not required. VOCAL RANGE: Baritone, Bv2 – F#4/Ab4.
[HICKORY/TIN MAN] Male-identifying, 20 – 40, any ethnicity. Hickory is a cranky farmhand who works for the Gales. The Tin Man is kind-hearted, caring and romantic. Despite his belief that he lacks heart, he proves himself a compassionate and emotional companion to Dorothy. Must have great comic instincts and be an excellent mover. VOCAL RANGE: Baritone/Tenor, Bb2 – G4.
[ZEKE/COWARDLY LION] Male-identifying, 20 – 40, any ethnicity. Zeke is a big-talking farmhand who works for the Gales. The Cowardly Lion is a mix of over-the-top bravado and extreme cowardice. A gentle giant who believes he has no courage, but can summon bravery when it matters. Must have great comic instincts; improv skills are a plus, but not required.
[ALMIRA GULCH/WICKED WITCH OF THE WEST] Female-identifying, 30 – 60, any ethnicity. Almira is the cranky neighbor with anger-management issues who is committed to taking Dorothy’s dog away from her. The Wicked Witch of the West if the villainess of villainesses; menacing, vengeful and commanding, she will use all of her evil powers to avenge the death of her sister. NOTE: This actor must be willing to fly. Non-singing role.
[PROFESSOR MARVEL/THE WIZARD] Male-identifying, 45 – 65, any ethnicity. Professor Marvel is a smooth-talking charlatan who takes advantage of his customers’ naivete. The Wizard is similar in his ability to amass power by pretending to be something he is not. Charismatic and deceptive, the Wizard is ultimately a middle-aged man from Kansas, trying to keep the charade going. NOTE: This actor must be willing to fly. Non-singing role.
[AUNT EM/GLINDA] Female-identifying, 40s – 50s, any ethnicity. Aunt Em is a tough farmer who doesn’t suffer fools. Loves her niece, but doesn’t tolerate nonsense. Glinda is the embodiment of goodness and kindness. Graceful, wise and compassionate, Glinda is Dorothy’s spirit guide through Oz, a warm presence who keeps a watchful eye over her journey. NOTE: This actor must be willing to fly. VOCAL RANGE: Soprano, G3 – C5.
[UNCLE HENRY/EMERALD CITY GUARD] Male-identifying, 40s – 50s, any ethnicity. Uncle Henry is a farmer with a soft spot for Dorothy. He is the good cop to Aunt Em’s bad cop. The Emerald City Guard is efficient and competent – perhaps he takes his job a bit too seriously, but he’s good at what he does. VOCAL RANGE: Baritone, Bb2 – Eb4.
[ADULT ENSEMBLE] Seeking an adult ensemble that includes 8 male-identifying and 8 female-identifying performers; any ethnicity. All must be strong singers and seeking excellent dancers and strong movers who can potentially understudy lead roles. Contemporary improvisational movement experience and acrobatics are a plus. It would be great to have some actors under 5’2”.
[YOUTH ENSEMBLE] Seeking a youth ensemble that includes at least 4 young actors under the age of 18; any ethnicity. All must be strong singers and seeking excellent dancers and strong movers. Particularly looking for young actors under 5’2”.
