Breakdown
SYNOPSIS:
In a high-end hotel room, rising football stars Jason and Ade are living the dream. Goals, girls and glory. Tomorrow they make their first-team debut. But the game starts before you've even walked out the tunnel. Twelve years. Three hotel rooms. One last gamble. An agile new story about sex, fame and how much you're willing to lose in order to win.
SEEKING:
JASON: White Male, British, High 20s/Low 30s. He begins the play a young player on the cusp of being professionally drafted; he ends the play a global star not unlike David Beckham. Obsessed with power and attention, Jason navigates messy crisis prevention in the midst of a broken marriage, an abandoned child, and affairs with men. A complicated relationship with Ade, his childhood friend he finds himself tied to despite having to conquer him for his career growth. Immediately and radiantly uses a sexual energy and charisma as he navigates the eyes of men, women, and a public audience. Silly roughhousing, full of life, dangerous when threatened. NOTE: Appears in every scene, must be comfortable with intimacy and (at the least) rear nudity.
ADE pronounced ‘ah - day’: Black Male, British-born and of Nigerian descent, High 20s/Low 30s. Grounding the first and final scenes, Ade begins on the cusp of being drafted but returns by the end having given up a career in football for construction and general contracting. Balancing outsized sexual energy in the first scene (and dealing with the overtones of a religious father and hypersexualized media landscape) with an acceptance of his homosexuality and partnership by the final scene. We see the dreams of a young man looking to make it, and we see the realities of a more conventional life — all whilst being in the orbit of a global sensation former friend-turned sexual partner. A maturation and self-growth that is constantly being challenged by Jason. NOTE: Must be comfortable with intimacy and some degree of nudity.
LYNDSEY: Female, British, any ethnicity. High 20s/Low 30s. An exotic dancer that has come to Jason’s hotel room under the guise of having a bit of flashy fun, really sent to film a hidden camera sex tape. Single mother to an 8-year old child with special needs. Unashamed, confident, and forward; combative and unafraid when backed into a corner. She is revealed to have excellent self-defense skills and ultimately commits to the tape filming with an unemotional remove. Pragmatic, smart, does what she needs to provide for herself. NOTE: Appears in the second scene, must be comfortable with intimacy and topless nudity.
HARRY: British Male, any ethnicity, low 20s. A porter at a posh London hotel, he is called up to Jason’s room and encounters Jason and Ade looking for a bit of frat-house fun: drinking games, drugs, roughhousing. A sports fan, he immediately recognizes Jason and is eager to join the party. When pushed past his limits, he lashes out and becomes combative towards Jason and Ade, regardless of the power imbalance. Is kicked out of the hotel suite after threatening to expose Jason on Twitter. NOTE: Appears in the final scene, must be comfortable with physicalized play and combat.
