Scenic Design Opportunity – Seussical (High School Production)

Please include "Seussical Set Designer - [Your Name]" in the subject line.

We are seeking a student or early-career scenic designer to create a CAD-based rendering for a high school production of Seussical.

This is a fully remote design opportunity focused on elevating an existing concept into a cohesive, playful, and imaginative base set that fits the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss.

Stage Specifications - Width: 25’, Depth: 29’, Height: 10.5’

Scope of Work

  • Base set design only (no scene shifts)

  • CAD rendering required

  • No paint colors or textures needed — focus on form, scale, and structure

  • Design will build upon provided shapes and required elements

  • Goal is to enhance and stylize these elements into a more elevated, cohesive Seussical environment

  • Set should anticipate and incorporate exciting lighting elements (e.g. cutouts, layering, depth, reveal moments)

    • General knowledge of how scenery interacts with lighting is a plus for rendering purposes

    • A dedicated on-site lighting designer/technician will handle all lighting design and execution

Ideal Candidate

  • Student designer, recent graduate, or early-career scenic designer

  • Comfortable working in CAD (Vectorworks, AutoCAD, SketchUp, or similar)

  • Interested in theatrical storytelling, playful geometry, and imaginative design

  • Basic understanding of scenic–lighting interaction is a plus

Stipend

  • $500–$750, based on experience and expected hours

Why This Is a Great Opportunity

  • Fully remote and flexible

  • Clear scope and expectations

  • Strong portfolio-building project

  • Credit provided in the production program

  • Collaborative and supportive creative environment
  • Potential similar future opportunities
