This position will join the experienced, award-winning team behind Western North Carolina's premier professional theatre company.

Venue: Highlands Performing Arts Center
Contract Dates: June 7th, 2026 - September 1st, 2026 (weeks off 07/13-07/26)
Role: Sound Designer/Audio Engineer (A1)
Weekly Rate: $900/wk - $950/wk
Housing and Travel: Provided/Single Occupancy

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position calls for an energetic, dynamic, and dedicated individual who works well with a great deal of independence and exercises independent judgment while performing a variety of duties. The Sound Designer works closely with the Artistic Director to execute all audio-related aspects of the production. The Sound Designer is required to attend all technical rehearsals through to the official opening of the performance The Sound Designer will also serve as the Audio Engineer (A1) to ensure the production runs smoothly. Travel and Housing are provided by Mountain Theatre Company.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
~ Creating and translating a sound design (including all diagrams, sound cues, and plotting) consistent with the creative vision of the Artistic Director.
~ Attending Production Meetings as necessary, as well as all technical rehearsals.
~ Overseeing and assisting in all necessary setup and breakdown.
~ Managing expendable inventory, i.e. batteries, mic tape, gaff tape, etc. , and will report to the Company Manager when supplies need to be replenished.
Preferred skills and other requirements include but are not limited to:
~ Enthusiasm for live event production.
~ Have demonstrated success in previous production work, with a focus on sound design, soundboard operation, and live mixing in a theatrical setting.
~ Proficiency with Qlab and Midas Digital Mixers.
~ Proficiency in recording voiceover and backing vocals along with the ability to mix these prerecorded assets with live performers.
~ Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
~ Willingness to perform, at times, physically demanding tasks, with the ability to lift items potentially weighing up to 50 pounds.
~ Availability both during the week and on the weekends for both daytime and evening hours, especially through scheduled tech rehearsal weeks.
License/Certification:
~ Driver's License (Preferred). Ability to drive to contact is a plus.
