For more than a half-century, NBT has maintained its strong commitment to bring new, underrepresented voices to the forefront that provide fresh, diverse perspectives on critical issues of equity and social justice. NBT produces transformational and dialogue-generating theatre that successfully shifts inaccuracies around African Americans' cultural identity by telling intersectional stories of Black life.

Job Summary: The Production Associate works in partnership with the full Theatre Arts Program (TAP) staff to support theatrical programming and logistics. The Production Associate utilizes strong communications and organizational skills - and dexterity with details - to actively keep multiple stakeholders informed and effective every step of the way, from conception to curtain call. This is a full-time position exempt role, with an annual salary of $62,400, reporting to the Executive Artistic Director (or Production Manager). This position is currently hybrid, with 2-3 days expected to be in person in NBT’s Harlem office or on site at rehearsal and performance venues.


Responsibilities: The Production Associate’s responsibilities include but are not limited to:


PLANNING/ORGANIZATION

  • Implement the activities of the Season calendar with a focus on planning, research, timelines and schedules for artists, staff, and facilities

  • Work closely with Executive Artistic Director and TAP Staff to support the logistics of the SOUL Series LAB fellowships and their culminating presentations

  • Support marketing efforts to drives audiences to experience NBT’s work, including managing comp seats for the Company

  • Support all of the TAP staff to execute needed tasks to meet creative and developmental programming

  • Support both on and off-site events with logistics ranging from scouting venues to moving equipment during load-in to managing participant sign-in sheets

  • Represent NBT and its programs to a wide variety of constituents


PRODUCING

  • Help coordinate an artistically-significant and financially-viable program of quality performances that continue to define the NBT brand. This is done in concert with working with EAD, operations and Production Manager.

  • Organize and run production meetings for productions; support with note-taking as needed.

  • Generate the creation of a detailed production schedule and work with the TAP team to assign/delegate tasks as appropriate.

  • Coordinate the implementation of theatrical design with designers, and work with key vendors to get this done.

  • Support the hiring and onboarding of key production staff members for TAP productions

  • Organize and coordinate in the execution of load-ins and load-outs/strikes and assessing necessary crew staffing and their duties for workshops, rehearsals, and productions; attend and oversee technical rehearsals with Production Manager, TD and EAD

  • Support in the collection of all show files following the close of the production

  • Help maintain project-specific budgets for productions with support from the operations team.

  • Make approved purchases to support production needs; code and submit receipts in a timely manner


Qualifications/Background:

  • Experience (2-3 years) working on the producing side of theatre/performing arts environments preferred

  • Highly detail-oriented

  • Demonstrated creativity and dexterity in juggling multiple tasks and timelines; adept at thinking on one’s feet to problem-solve

  • Excellent communications skills - written and verbal

  • High level of computer aptitude and proficiency in Google Workspace

  • A creative thinker capable of remaining flexible and adapting to new situations, tasks, or challenges

  • A patient, empathetic, active listener

  • Analytical and process-oriented

  • Capable of handling multiple projects and prioritizing appropriately

  • Ability to see projects through to completion while working methodically to achieve thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
