Playbill in the Round: The Ladies Who Broadway | Playbill

The 2023-24 Broadway season is poised to be a historic one, as women in theatre take on more roles onstage and behind the scenes than ever before. To celebrate that, Playbill put together a roundtable conversation for our new Playbill in the Round series. We brought together four women of different disciplines who are leading shows this season: Amber Iman, one of the leads of Lempicka; Jessica Stone, the director of the Tony-winning musical Kimberly Akimbo and director of the musical spectacular Water for Elephants; Heidi Schreck, the Tony-nominated writer/actor who is creating an all-new, stirring adaptation of Uncle Vanya; and Camille Brown, the Tony-nominated choreographer who is collaborating with Alicia Keys on Hell’s Kitchen. These four women sat down and discussed what drew them to theatre, how they grew their careers, the important of speaking up for yourself in the rehearsal room, and balancing work with motherhood. This expansive, dynamic conversation is the enlightening watch not just for women, but for anyone trying to figure out how to create a lasting career in the arts.
