DESCRIPTION
The Encores! Directing Fellow will experience the full scope of City Center’s musical theater season as a participant in the creative process for our Encores! productions and Annual Gala Presentation. The Fellow will collaborate with each directing team in a variety of ways including note-taking support, running lines with actors, and standing in for actors who are not present during blocking. This season-long position offers the Fellow the opportunity to gain an intimate look into how Directors synthesize dynamics between all creative departments and manage time within City Center’s brief rehearsal processes.Key Aspects of the Fellowship
- Under the guidance of four different directors, the Fellow will discover new opportunities for networking, mentorship, observance, and involvement during each production.
- Starting with the Annual Gala Presentation musical in the fall, the Fellow will receive a thorough introduction to City Center’s uniquely abbreviated musical theater production process by shadowing the directing team.
- Over the course of three subsequent 2026 Encores! productions, the Fellow will continue to build their experience and understanding of the process with each directing team.
- During a brief production hiatus, the Fellow will have the opportunity to shadow our Artistic Director and General Management team to gain an understanding of City Center’s daily operations and artistic planning process.
- Specialized career-development opportunities will be offered including seminars, master classes and further opportunities to engage with New York City Center’s resources.
