FLSA Status: Exempt

POSITION STATUS: Full Time – requires occasional evenings and weekends, Hybrid- Two days remote per week

Imagination Stage is an internationally renowned professional producing theatre for young audiences and a positive youth development organization recognized for its arts education programming.

Imagination Stage seeks an experienced Director of Marketing & Communications to lead and develop its marketing team to meet earned revenue goals for professional theatre and education and to support the development team in meeting its contributed revenue goals. The Director of Marketing & Communications is a key member of the senior management team.

Reporting to the Chief Managing Officer and working closely with the Chief Artistic Programming Officer and the Director of Education, the Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for helping the organization achieve its earned income goals using strategic and innovative marketing and communications tools, practices, and approaches. The Director of Marketing & Communications is responsible for income projections, revenue and expense tracking, tracking and reporting for campaign efforts, and researching and identifying trends in audience buying behavior.

The Director of Marketing & Communications also works closely with the Sr. Director of Development to plan and execute marketing and communications support for contributed revenue goals.

The successful candidate for this hands-on role is a creative storyteller and strategic thinker with a high degree of initiative and professional accountability who possesses strong skills and experience in short- and long-term goal-oriented strategy, planning, organization, and execution of compelling advertising and external communications.

Required Skills And Experience

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or higher in marketing, communication, journalism or related field and 5+ years of experience in marketing & communications leadership for projects and teams in a fast-paced department with a broad portfolio of products & services. Knowledge of integrated marketing and communications best practices. Proven ability to lead and inspire dynamic and creative teams working on multi-faceted programs and campaigns.

  • People Management: Experience leading a team to high performance standards, with clear communication of goals, strategies and plans.

  • Budget Planning & Management: Experience leading budget planning and management at the departmental or business unit level, including staffing, sales projections, campaign budgets, and vendors.

  • Campaign Strategy & Management: Experience creating and leading short- and long-term multimedia marketing and PR campaigns.

  • Data Analysis/Data-Driven Strategy: Experience creating and managing KPIs that align with organizational goals and strategic objectives; tracking and reporting against KPIs. Experience working with and leveraging actionable data from complex CRM systems (Tessitura a plus).

  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for creating compelling content and collaborating with others while growing and protecting the brand.

  • Digital Marketing Expertise: Experience with social media and website management, email marketing, content management systems (WordPress a plus), and digital advertising.

  • Project Management: The ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and deliverables simultaneously.

  • Creative and Strategic Thinking: A strategic and creative mindset to develop innovative marketing ideas.

  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in the management of complex projects and marketing assets.

  • Customer Trust & Data Security: Understands and adheres to best practices in GDPR and safe collection and control of sensitive customer information.

  • Advanced Tools: Knowledge of or experience with AI for analysis and content creation under leading practices.

ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee team of 6 full-time staff members, including field trip and group sales and patron services. Provide unifying leadership to spearhead collaborative marketing and communication efforts among team members working across all program areas

  • Work closely with executive staff to develop and implement overall communication strategy, branding, positioning, messaging, and collateral

  • Develop revenue projections and budgets, in close collaboration with the Chief Managing Officer, Chief Artistic Programming Officer, Director of Production, Director of Education, and Sr. Manager of Patron Services

  • Provide data-driven advice on program planning, including season selection, events, and education programs

  • Create and manage strategies, plans and budgets within the MarCom team (subscriptions, field trips, group sales, single ticket purchases, class and camp registrations)

  • Oversee marketing, customer service, and financial processes with front of house

  • Track and report efficacy of marketing and programming efforts and customer satisfaction

  • Oversee vendor relations such as media publications, mail house, printers, and print and digital advertising reps, designers and photographers.

  • Create, manage, and protect brand identity and voice of Imagination Stage across digital and print mediums through strong editorial oversight

  • Analyze and monitor audience, market share, competitor positions, revenue opportunities, as well as market trends

  • Work with board task forces or committees to achieve brand recognition, new sales approaches, promotions, and press and other community relationships

  • Serve as primary point of contact for local, state, national and industry press; pitch creative angles to secure advance features and additional coverage for all aspects of programming

  • Envision, implement, and oversee audience engagement opportunities including community events and interactive opportunities both in-house and online for patrons and students

  • Serve as emergency notification contact for any circumstances affecting theatre operations, and manage the process for notification of affected parties (staff, patrons, etc.)

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

  • Annual Salary: $75,400–$82,000, based on level of experience

SALARY

$75,400.00 – $82,000.00 per year
