Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC), a Tony Award-winning nonprofit theatre dedicated to the production of contemporary plays and musicals, seeks a Director of Individual Giving to work with the Chief Development Officer.
For over fifty years, MTC has been the creative and artistic home for America’s most gifted theatrical artists, producing works of the highest quality by American and international playwrights. We are strongly committed to producing work that is made by, and tells the stories of, a wide range of voices from all walks of life and to making that work accessible to all audiences including those that have historically lacked access to the arts and cultural sector. MTC produces up to eight plays annually in Broadway’s restored Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on West 47th Street and Off-Broadway at the historic NY City Center complex on West 55th Street.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Individual Giving is a senior member of MTC’s frontline fundraising team, primarily responsible for leading direct fundraising efforts to secure more than $5M in individual annual support. This role focuses on cultivating and soliciting individual gifts through the Patron Program, Artistic Director Circle, and Producing Partners while fostering strong donor relationships. Additionally, the Director will provide leadership and guidance to the Individual Giving team, supporting collaborative efforts to meet and exceed revenue goals.

§ Conduct at least 100 prospect meetings annually, ensuring consistent follow-up, communication, and activity tracking for each donor.
§ Oversee the growth of MTC’s Patron ($3,000+) and Artistic Director Circle ($12,500+) programs, engaging with ~900 donor households annually.
§ Work with Chief Development Officer to expand the Producing Partners program, securing major gifts of $50,000+ through targeted, production-specific campaigns.
§ Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight for the Individual Giving team, including the Major Gifts Officer, Individual Giving Manager, and Development Assistant, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fostering professional growth.
§ Promote positive donor relations by ensuring timely and impactful stewardship across all levels of giving.
§ Develop and execute fundraising strategies to achieve annual goals, including donor acquisition, upgrades, renewals, and benefit fulfillment.
§ Collaborate with team members to create strategies for fundraising events such as MTC’s annual Benefit and Gala.
§ Enhance Moves Management practices, prospecting, and cultivation strategies, with a focus on increasing donor engagement and identifying opportunities for growth.
§ Partner with the Director of Development Operations and Strategy on data analysis, wealth screening, and projections to support targeted fundraising.
§ Collaborate with Special Events staff to design and execute donor cultivation events, including pre-show dinners, receptions, and Opening Nights.
§ Represent MTC at key events, strengthening relationships with trustees, donors, and prospects.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate is an accomplished fundraiser with demonstrated success in cultivating major gifts and leading individual giving programs, paired with experience managing and supporting teams.
§ 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in frontline fundraising, including securing 5- and 6-figure commitments.
§ Proven ability to grow individual giving programs and achieve ambitious revenue goals.
§ At least 2 years supervisory experience with a focus on mentoring, goal setting, and team performance.
§ Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build lasting relationships with donors at all levels.
§ Creativity, strategic thinking, and a results-oriented approach.
