Natalie Myrick, Emmet Smith, and Elyza Tuan are winners of the fourth annual Write Out Loud songwriting contest. Led by Tony nominee Taylor Louderman (Mean Girls), music director Benjamin Rauhala, Hannah Kloepfer (Pitch In), Sarah Glugatch, and Josh Collopy, the competition shines a spotlight on emerging musical theatre songwriters.
All three writers will have their winning songs recorded by a Broadway alum and released on iTunes, Apple Music, and Spotify. The winners will also be showcased along with the work of select finalists in a show at 54 Below, set for September 26. The winning songs include "Cool" by Myrick, "The Ugly Side of Me" by Smith, and "It's Not Pretty to Be Crazy" by Tuan.
The contest, launched in 2019, celebrates new musical theatre writers. Past winners include India Angel, Ethan Carlson, Matt Copley, Taylor Fagins, Chloe Geller, Anna M Johnson, Joriah Kwamé, Brandon Michael Lowden, Kailey Marshall, Alexander Sage Oyen, Matt Pena, Kat Siciliano, and Mackenzie Szabo.
