Wicked alum Wade McCollum, most recently seen Off-Broadway in the new musical Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, is tapped to star in a development lab of It Happened in Key West at the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in August. Four performances of the new musical will be free and open to the public August 25–27.
Written by Jill Santoriello (Broadway's A Tale of Two Cities) with Jason Huza and Jeremiah James, It Happened in Key West is inspired by true events that happened in Florida in the 1930s. The romantic comedy follows an eccentric scientist who goes to all kinds of lengths—including six feet under—to retrieve the dream girl of his childhood.
According to Newswire.com, the cast of the developmental lab will also feature Elena Ramos Pascullo, Dave Droxler, Courtney Warford, Roxanne Daneman, Anna DeBlasio, Connor McGiffin, Spencer Micetich, Anson J.H. Woodin, Ryan Neal Green, Michael Fisher, and Casey Furlong.
Fulton Artistic Director Marc Robin will direct with Kevin David Thomas as musical director.
The show received a 29-hour staged reading in 2015 and debuted at the Good to Go Songwriter’s Showcase last March. See Stephanie Rothenberg, Jeremiah James, and Claybourne Elder perform a song from the new musical below:
