The world premiere stage version of the 1996 movie musical Mrs. Santa Claus, with songs by Jerry Herman, is no longer part of the Goodspeed Musicals 2025 season. Instead, the Tony-winning Connecticut venue will present the holiday classic Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.
The change in titles is due to scheduling conflicts, according to the theatre. White Christmas will run November 14-December 28 at the Goodspeed in East Haddam. Josh Rhodes will direct and choreograph.
All tickets purchased for Mrs. Santa Claus will be honored for the same date/time for Irving Berlin’s White Christmas. New tickets will be mailed to all ticket holders. Those who wish to exchange tickets or request a refund should call the box office at (860) 873-8668.
“Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is a treasured holiday musical that has delighted audiences around the world. While we are disappointed that we aren’t able to produce Mrs. Santa Claus this season, we look forward to working on future projects with all of our Mrs. Santa Claus partners and are pleased that Josh Rhodes will direct and choreograph White Christmas,” said Goodspeed Artistic Director Donna Lynn Hilton in a statement.
Based on the classic 1954 holiday film, the musical features a book by David Ives and Paul Blake and follows two army buddies as they enlist the help of their showbiz pals to put on a show at a picturesque Vermont inn alongside their perfect match, a sister performance duo. The show contains some of Irving Berlin’s most popular tunes, including “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep Is the Ocean?,” ‘’Count Your Blessings,” and the iconic title song. Walter Bobbie directed the Broadway production, which premiered in 2008 and returned for a second engagement in 2009.
Irving Berlin’s White Christmas is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
