Based on Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors, The Boys From Syracuse has music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Lorenz Hart and a libretto by George Abbott. David Ives penned this concert adaptation.
In this musical adaptation of Shakespeare’s zany comedy, Antipholus and his wily servant Dromio travel to Ephesus in search of their respective twins, separated by shipwreck. They are immediately taken for their brothers—by perplexed wives, disgruntled courtesans, and outraged constables alike. The musical includes such Rodgers and Hart gems as "Falling in Love with Love," "This Can't Be Love," and “Sing for Your Supper.”
The Boys From Syracuse debuted on Broadway in 1938 in a production directed by Abbott and choreographed by George Balanchine. A 2002 Broadway revival at the American Airlines, featuring a new book by Nicky Silver, was directed by Scott Ellis and choreographed by Rob Ashford.
The forthcoming concert will also have music direction by Greg Pliska, choreography by Ted Pappas, lighting design by Paul Hudson, costume design by Beth Goldenberg, sound design by Shannon Slaton, projection design by Mark Costello, and prop design by Lauren Page Russell.
Alexandre Bleau is the casting director, and Nikki Lint is the production stage manager.
