Well, everybody starts somewhere!
Tony winner Carol Burnett is one of the cover stars of People Magazine this April, and in celebration, the weekly publication released a video of Burnett reflecting on her legendary career and her 90th birthday. Check out the video above to learn about the women Burnett dreamed of emulating as a child. We'll give you a hint—it wasn't her close friend and mentor Lucille Ball!
A self-described late bloomer, Burnett fell in love with comedy at 18, and steadily worked her way up the ranks through Broadway (Once Upon A Mattress), television (The Carol Burnett Show), and film (Annie). Today, Burnett is remembered as one of the most successful female comedians of the 20th century, and a fierce trailblazer for women in the entertainment industry.
Burnett will turn 90 April 26, to which Playbill extends a hearty happy early birthday.
