Video Watch: Leslie Odom Jr. Reflects on Returning to Hamilton

The Tony winner visited Today to talk about returning to the role of Aaron Burr a decade on.

Tony-winning Hamilton original cast member Leslie Odom, Jr. returned to the Broadway company of the Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical September 9, and this weekend, he checked in with the Today Show to reflect on the experience.

Odom, Jr., who won the 2016 Tony for creating the role of Aaron Burr in the Lin-Manuel Miranda musical, again plays Burr at the Richard Rodgers Theatre through November 26.

"I'm having a great time. I'm celebrating this show now, most nights, with 1,400 people that love this thing as much as I do, if not more," Odom shared with host Willie Geist on The Today Show Sunday Sitdown. "That wasn't the experience the first time around. Then, there was a tension, a good tension. That was what it was in that season, and what it is in this season is this celebratory party, this healing cherry on a delicious cake that I've been eating little bites for the last 10 years."

Odom, Jr.'s return coincides with the musical's 10th Broadway anniversary. The Emmy-winning filmed version of the musical, which also features Odom, Jr., was released in movie theatres earlier this month.

The Broadway company of Hamilton currently features Trey Curtis as Alexander Hamilton, Morgan Anita Wood as Eliza Hamilton, Stephanie Umoh as Angelica Schuyler, Tamar Greene as George Washington, Bryson Bruce as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson), Ebrin R. Stanley as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison, David Guzman as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton, Cherry Torres as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds, and Jarrod Spector as King George III.

The musical—with a book and score by Miranda—explores the life of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Inspired by the book "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow, the musical incorporates historical figures such as George Washington, Aaron Burr, James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson.
