Broadway general manager and producer Albert Poland has more theatre stories to share from his more-than-three-decades-long career on the Main Stem and a long life of being an offstage theatre enthusiast. The Broadway legend is currently crowdfunding on Kickstarter to release a second memoir, Bright Lights, a follow-up to his Stages, published in 2019.
Stages focused on Poland's career, which included Broadway credits as a company manager, general manager, and producer on such productions as Starmites, The Last Night of Ballyhoo, Dirty Blonde, The Boy From Oz, Glengarry Glen Ross, Talk Radio, and The Homecoming.
Bright Lights, per Poland's Kickstarter campaign, will tell more personal stories, recounting his growing up in the '40s and '50s as a gay kid in the midwest, starting a Judy Garland fan club, and more. The tome will recount his friendship with the late Howard Ashman and their work together on Ashman's Little Shop of Horrors, run-ins with Barbara Cook and Paul Reubens, and lots more.
"I hope you will come along. I think you will be gratified to be a participant, and I promise you an upbeat, invigorating time!," writes Poland.
