A recent preview event featured performances of three songs from Michael Meth's immersive musical Last Night at the Rue Bayou, due to make its New Orleans premiere at Storyville Music Hall April 16-May 3. The work features a concept, book, and lyrics by Meth, and music by Martee LeBow. Obie winner Tracey Conyer Lee is directing.

Hear the title song above, and keep scrolling for "Love the Hurt Away" and "Mo Gumbo."

Produced by MTTM Theatrics, the immersive experience is set in a magical juke joint at the crossroads between the world of the living and the spirits of the bayou, following a matriarch who endeavors to save her club from a corrupt Parish Commissioner with a night of music, memory, and supernatural reckoning. Guests are encouraged to come early (doors open an hour before showtime) and stay late, with drinks and gumbo promised. MTTM hopes the upcoming limited engagement will be the launch of a global roll-out for the production.

Leading the cast will be Kadejah One Higdon as Miss Ilean, Donald Jones Jr. as Reverend Beaucoup and Papa Legba, Deri’Andra Y’vette Tucker as La Fonda, and Caldrick Williams as Tiny. They'll be joined by an ensemble comprising Andrew Michael Antoine, Madison Margaret Clark, Keith Claverie, Tim Davis, Queen Shereen, Reggie McNeil, Rayshaughn Armant, and Melana Lloyd. Casting is by Amber Snead and Chad Eric Murnane of Murnane Casting.

The creative team also includes music director Seth Farber, music supervisor Irwin Fisch, choreographer Julio Agustin, associate choreographer Jones Jr., scenic designer Raquel M. Jackson (of Equipoise Designs), costume designer Shauna Leone, lighting designer Cory Pattak, and sound designer Tyler Kieffer. Bobby Cheramie will be the production stage manager.

Lisa Dozier Shacket, Michael Shannon, and LDK Productions are serving as general managers.

Tickets are at RueBayouMusical.com.
