Broadway News Watch Joshua Henry and Gavin Creel's Mash-Up of Sam Smith and Stephen Sondheim's 'Stay With Me'

The pair, soon to star as the princes of Broadway's Into the Woods revival, recorded the performance backstage at rehearsals for the Sondheim musical.

Stage favorites Joshua Henry and Gavin Creel, both set to star in the Broadway transfer of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Into the Woods, performed a mash-up of two songs titled "Stay With Me," respectively by Sam Smith and Stephen Sondheim, the latter featured in the aforementioned musical.

Shared via Henry's TikTok, the performer wrote, "Created this for #gavinCreel & I backstage @Into the Woods on Broadway we play princes.. you should come." The video is just over a minute long and features Henry and Creel singing on a staircase with Henry strumming along on his guitar. Starting off with Smith's radio hit, Creel chimes in with the Sondheim lyrics.

Henry, best known for starring in Shuffle AlongHamilton and opposite Ciara Renee in Waitress, has taken to replying to a few friendly comments on the video. He has welcomed fans to the theatre, expressing his excitement for the show to open and echoing one commenter's message that the "vibes are immaculate." One of Henry's responses reads, "We so appreciate the love, just doing and sharing what we love."

Broadway's upcoming revival of Into the Woods features an all-star cast with Sara Bareilles as the Baker's Wife, Brian d'Arcy James as the Baker, Tony winner Patina Miller as the Witch, Phillipa Soo as Cinderella, Tony winner Gavin Creel as Cinderella's Prince/Wolf, Joshua Henry as Rapunzel's Prince, Cole Thompson as Jack, Julia Lester as Little Red Ridinghood, Nancy Opel as Cinderella's Stepmother, and Aymee Garcia as Jack's Mother.

The cast continues with Alysia Velez as Rapunzel, David Patrick Kelly as Narrator/Mysterious Man, Annie Golden as Cinderella's Mother/Grandmother/Giant's Wife, Ta'Nika Gibson as Lucinda, Albert Guerzon as Cinderella's Father, Brooke Ishibashi as Florinda, Kennedy Kanagawa as Milky White, and David Turner as Steward, along with Jason Forbach, Mary Kate Moore, and Cameron Johnson, and understudies Delphi Borich, Felicia Curry, Alex Joseph Grayson, Paul Kreppel, Diane Phelan, and Lucia Spina.

With a book by Lapine and a score by Sondheim, Into the Woods combines the fairy-tale stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, and more, ultimately going beyond "ever after" to explore what happens next. The revival begins performances June 28 at the St. James Theatre, with opening night planned for July 10.

The revival, the musical's third Broadway outing, comes to the Main Stem via an Encores! gala concert staging that played New York City Center in May. Director Lear deBessonet will be back at the helm of the transfer, leading a creative team also including music director Rob Berman, choreographer Lorin Latarro, scenic designer David Rockwell, costume designer Andrea Hood, lighting designer Tyler Micoloeau, sound designers Scott Lehrer and Alex Neumann, puppet designer James Ortiz, and hair and makeup designer Cookie Jordan. Casting is by Telsey & Co, and Cody Renard Richard will serve as production supervisor.
