Cast Recordings & Albums Watch: Jonathan Groff Records a Broadway Cast Album for Bobby Darin Biomusical Just In Time

See the Tony winner sing "This Could Be the Start of Something New" and the title song from the musical's Broadway cast album, due August 15 from Atlantic Records.

We have to wait until August 15 for the Just In Time Broadway cast album, but the show has released a new video from the recording studio to tide us over till then. See Tony winner Jonathan Groff record iconic Bobby Darin songs "This Could Be the Start of Something Big" and "Just in Time" in the video above.

The full album drops August 15 via Atlantic Records, with a physical release slated for October 24. Fans can preorder the album here.

The Just in Time album was produced by Tom Kirdahy, two-time Grammy winner Bill Sherman, Andrew Resnick, and Alex Timbers; and co-produced, recorded, and mixed by five-time Grammy winner Derik Lee, with Robert Ahrens serving as executive producer.

Just in Time is currently running on Broadway at Circle in the Square Theatre. It tracks the life story of 1950s crooner Bobby Darin, with Groff performing Darin's greatest hits, including "Beyond the Sea," "Splish Splash," and "Mack the Knife."

“When Bobby Darin recorded the standard ‘Lazy River’ in 1961, he wanted to present ‘an old sound made new.’ Working with Atlantic, we are excited to do exactly that as we re-introduce Darin’s catalogue to the world with Andrew Resnick and Michael Thurber’s Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle award-winning orchestrations, and the performances of Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff and the extraordinary cast of Just in Time,” said producers Tom Kirdahy and Robert Ahrens in an earlier joint statement.

“This album felt destined to be made at Atlantic,” added Atlantic's Craig Rosen and Michael Parker. “Bobby Darin is a key part of our legacy—many of his early hits were produced by our founder, Ahmet Ertegun, and recorded in our original offices. Ahmet even appears as a character in the show, which plays in the theatre right below our current headquarters. Having Jonathan Groff record vocals here, just as Darin once did, brought everything full circle. We’re proud to help bring these iconic songs to life with this incredible cast and band.”

The musical also features Erika Henningsen (Mean Girls), Tony winner Michele Pawk (Wicked), Joe Barbara (A Bronx Tale The Musical), Drama Desk nominee Emily Bergl (Good Night, Oscar), Tony nominee Gracie Lawrence (The Sex Lives of College Girls), Lance Roberts (The Music Man), Caesar Samayoa (Come From Away), Christine Cornish (Kiss Me, Kate), Julia Grondin (Funny Girl), Valeria Yamin (Moulin Rouge!), John Treacy Egan (My Fair Lady), Tari Kelly (Mr. Saturday Night), Matt Magnusson (A Wonderful World), Khori Michelle Petinaud (Lempicka), and Larkin Reilly (Bad Cinderella).

The work, developed by Timbers and based on an original concept by Ted Chapin, features a book by Tony winner Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Shannon Lewis choreographs with music supervision and arrangements by Andrew Resnick, who also penned the orchestrations with Michael Thurber.

The production also features scenic design by two-time Tony winner Derek McLane (Death Becomes Her), costume design by eight-time Tony winner Catherine Zuber (Moulin Rouge!), lighting design by Tony winner Justin Townsend (Here Lies Love), and sound design by Tony winner Peter Hylenski (Maybe Happy Ending).

Scott Rowen is the production stage manager, and Live Wire Theatrical is the general manager. Tom Kirdahy, Robert Ahrens, John Frost, and Groff are producing.

Just in Time was nominated for six 2025 Tony Awards, including for Groff's and Lawrence's performance, though it won none. Groff won a Tony Award last year for his performance in the Tony-winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along (which will be released in movie theatres later this year), and has also appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening and Hamilton.
