Would Josh Gad and Andrew Rannells rather play Roxie or Velma? Would they rather see a revival of Grease or of Hairspray? But more importantly, are their answers the same?
The musical comedy duo, who found Broadway fame in The Book of Mormon, recently appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen to chat about their friendship and the new show Gutenberg! The Musical!, now playing at the James Earl Jones Theatre. Watch the clip above in which Cohen presents them with "The BFF Test" to challenge their compatibility. (Please note: Yes, we heard Cohen say "Dolly Levi" wrong, too. We're choosing to believe that he knows the correct pronunciation, but he was just super nervous around Gad and Rannells.)
In another segment, the pair played "Book of Snore-man," judging what pop-culture moments they are tired of by giving it a snore. Check that clip out below.
Gutenberg! follows Gad and Rannells as Bud and Doug, two guys who have written a musical about Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. Convinced their show is ready for Broadway, they are holding a backers' performance in which they play all the parts, aided by hundreds of baseball caps adorned by character names.
Tony winner Alex Timbers directs the musical, written by Beetlejuice scribes Anthony King and Scott Brown. Gutenberg! runs through January 28, 2024.
