Sam Tutty and Christiani Pitts in Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)Matthew Murphy
The London hit musical Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)officially opens on Broadway November 20. Playing the Longacre Theatre, the romantic comedy began performances November 1.
Written by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan, Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) follows a naïve and impossibly upbeat Brit, Dougal, who has just landed in New York for his estranged father’s second wedding. When Robin, the sister of the bride, picks him up from the airport, they embark on an serendipitous adventure through New York City.
Directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson (who also oversaw the show in London), the Broadway run stars Pitts (Broadway's King Kong) and Olivier winner Tutty (Dear Evan Hansen), after both starred in the North American premiere A.R.T. production of the musical. Tutty also originated the role of Dougal in London.
For Broadway, they are joined by standbys Phoenix Best (Dear Evan Hansen, The Color Purple) and Vincent Michael (Safety Not Guaranteed, Mystic Pizza).
The musical previously played the Off-West End Kiln Theatre and the West End’s Criterion Theatre, as well as at Harvard University's American Repertory Theater in May 2025.
In addition to direction and choreography by Jackson, the Broadway production features scenic and costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jack Knowles, sound design by Tony Gayle, music supervision by Nick Finlow, and orchestrations by Lux Pyramid. Casting is by C12 Casting's Stephen Kopel.
