Tilda Swinton will bring her performance in Manfred Karge's solo play Man to Man to New York in spring 2027. The production, a revival of Swinton's performance in the work in 1988, was announced for London's Royal Court Theatre earlier this morning, a run that will precede the New York bow.
Stephen Unwin will direct the staging, which is using a translation by Anthony Vivis (from Karge's German). Bunny Christie (Company) will design.
The work follows a woman that, following the death of her husband, assumes his identity, fighting to stay alive against war, dictatorship, hunger, and humiliation. Swinton, who will make her first stage appearance in three decades with the production, starred in the work's U.K. premiere in 1988, first at Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre and later at the Royal Court in London.
The revival will also play a run at Berliner Ensemble in Germany before crossing the pond. NVK / Nate Koch, Jenna Ready, Joanna Pisano will serve as general managers for the New York run. Brian and Dayna Lee of AF Creative Media are producing, part of the duo's multi-year exclusive "first look" agreement with the Royal Court.
